Exploring the student-teacher relationship on the Buddhist path
A FPMT Discovering Buddhism Program
Tuesdays, 7 – 8:30pm, starting November 17th (4 Sessions)
This course will explore a number of topics on the student-teacher relationship in Buddhism, including how and when to search for a teacher, and what qualities we should look for. It will clarify the different roles a teacher may take, such as a mentor, spiritual friend, or tantric master. We’ll also look at what being a “student” means within these different contexts.
The course will discuss how these relationships can ultimately help awaken one’s “inner guru”, or, as Lama Yeshe would say, discovering one’s own “inner knowledge-wisdom”.
We’ll also touch on the various challenges that can arise in student-teacher relationships and the advice and resources to help avoid harmful situations.
With course readings, lecture, guided meditation and discussion. By donation. Open to all. With FPMT teacher Justin Jenkins.
